Theatre Combat

Theatre students in Dr. Tracye Couture’s classes learned fight choreography last week. Olivia Wilcox, an actor, fight director, and combat teacher, taught students how to safely simulate shoves, slaps, and punches, learning how to correctly “sell” the physicality while also making sure no one is injured. Students used their newly learned techniques and performed small scenes that required them to use many different areas they have learned in theater.

“A punch, a fall - it all has to be choreographed so no one gets hurt. The student’s are doing great, and some have never touched this before,” Wilcox said. According to Dr. Couture, “This week has been an enjoyable experience. As a theatre teacher, it is always nice to watch your students excel in something. They have built on techniques throughout the week, and have learned so much. A special thanks to Olivia for showing them a new side to theatre.”

Olivia Willcox is an actor, fight director, and combat teacher who travels all over the US for work. After graduating from LaTech University in 2018, Olivia has gone on to work Off Broadway, Off-Off Broadway, on many films and regional theaters. She is currently based in Shreveport, LA where she teaches stage combat classes and works on films for the Louisiana Film Prize. At the heart of her work is More Than OK Studios, a production company founded by Olivia and Katie Watts that brings the joy and hope of theatre to nursing home residents around Louisiana.

Parkers Chapel Theatre will be having their Showcase and Troupe Inductions this Thursday, February 1st at 7:00 pm in the PC Auditorium. A special presentation of stage combat choreography will also be that night.  Admission is free and they will have a dessert auction during Intermission to help raise money for Thespian Troupe #8889 to attend their state conference.
