Archery Club Starts at PC!

The Parkers Chapel School District is in the process of starting an archery club and competition team. The competition teams will be made up of 4th through 12th graders. There will be three different age divisions if we have enough students to participate in each division.

There will be a meeting Monday, November 18th, at 7 pm in the cafeteria to
discuss the program and the guidelines for the club.

"Slinging Arrows" has graciously agreed to partner with our club. They will host practice sessions for club members at the following times:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday - 3:30 - 6:30
  • Tuesday and Thursday 3:30-5:00
  • Saturday 10:00 -2:00

Each student participating will be required to attend at least one practice session per week (either at school or at "Slinging Arrows"). Practice sessions are independent practice times which includes 3 sets of 5 short-distance releases and 3 sets of 5 long-distance releases (30 shots minimum).

Students may not be dropped off to practice on their own. A parent must be present if the student is under the age of 16. Archery club students must sign-in on the Parkers Chapel Practice clipboard. Scorecards must be completed during the practice session.

An employee must sign off on the score card and the score card must be turned in to Mrs. Burson's office. Any student that does not turn in a scorecard weekly will be dropped from
the club.

Outside practice will be essential for improvement. As mentioned above, "Slinging Arrows" has agreed to let students in the club pay a $10 monthly fee to practice as often as they choose, during the hours listed above.

They have also agreed to allow you to use their bows and arrows, at no cost. As a student progresses and parents see that this is something their child would truly be interested in, I strongly suggest you look into purchasing a personal genesis bow, arrows, and targets.

Again, "Slinging Arrows" has agreed to let Parkers
Chapel students purchase the Genesis Bow (regular $169) and arrows (regular $4.99/each) at 20% discount.

You will need a signed letter through Mrs. Burson's office that you are participating with the Archery Club to receive this discount.

"Slinging Arrows" has weekly competitions tournaments every Tuesday and Thursday night. Mrs. Burson strongly suggests you visit them and watch them during a tournament. Students on our archery team will be able to compete in the Thursday night tournaments if they choose to do so I sign up.

The Archery Club will give students a probation period in the spring semester of 2020. After this, students will be required to have a 2.0 grade point average, no serious disciplinary infractions, and less than 8 absences (4 per semester) for the school year to participate.

We will implement archery into our physical education program. We have smaller bows that students in grades K-3 can use. These students may also be in the club, but cannot attend "state" level competitions until 4th grade. If this is something you think your child would enjoy, I suggest you start them out as soon as possible.

We will host some practices at the school in the MAC. We will also host some "in-house" competitions to help determine the traveling teams. The "in-house" scores will be added to the MAC practice sessions and the "Slinging Arrows" practice scores to determine each traveling team.
